Not a detox, but my word for January is reset/refresh. I'm working on setting (or resetting habits) without specifically giving something up. I do need to make time for the things, but I do that a mix of ways.

My two things I've committed to are daily writing and walking outside every day. I do the walking one every January and it is good for my creativity.

It's been a long time since I did The Artists Way, and I was resistant when I did it, but the idea of no reading for a week ... I don't know.

I love that word for January, Sara--and big yes, to daily writing and walking. I've gotten to the point where my day feels off if I haven't gotten my words and walk in. I also like that you chose a word of the month rather than a word of the year.

I've done the Artist Way four times and this last time was the first time I actually agreed to try the no reading rule. Obviously, I had to read for work but fun reading was out. I didn't enjoy it. At the same time, it gave me a break from comparing my work to that of some of the authors I admire, which was a bit freeing.

I can see where no reading would create space—in your head, in your schedule—but still feels hard. It could be a good shift for me to not read first thing in the morning. I've definitely considered that to make space for writing.
